barramundi.jpg As a general rule of thumb in Australia the bag limit for the Barramundi is Five fish per person HOWEVER in some areas and river systems you are limited to Two fish per person. Before heading out always check with the local authorities to avoid any unwanted drama on your trip.

Once again, the general rule of thumb on the minimum size limit is 60cm, with the upper limit usually set at 120cm, but please check with local authorities on this also. The larger fish are very important to the continued survival of the species as they are usually breeding females and should be released after capture, and after a photo of course!

During the Barramundi’s breeding season all fish caught should be released. This season runs from Midday on the 1st of November until Midday on the 1st of February inclusive. Although Barramundi numbers are healthy at the moment, if everyone does the right thing it will ensure that the species survives for many, many years to come.

On a less serious note, how do they know that the Barramundi starts and stops breeding at midday? Ok so it’s late, very very late! Better go to bed before writing anything else that stupid.
